Long Way from Home

Two years ago I was spending some time jamming regularly with Daniel and Chris, a couple of my musician friends, and I put together several songs that are alternative/indie rock type tunes.  Since I’m so often dealing in the realm of church music it was fun working on some other stuff.  I’ve got about 15 songs mostly finished as far as tracking and recording – still figuring out what I’m going to do with them.  Anyway I thought I’d do one of those tunes for my Monday morning slot today.

I found out about this contest that NPR music was doing.  I have enjoyed some of these video podcasts, called “Tiny Desk Concerts” they do in the NPR offices.  They are intimate and usually unplugged, remind me a bit of the videos I make for sharing tunes with worship leaders.   Anyway they were doing this contest where you make your own Tiny Desk Concert video.  Doubt if I’ll win, but gave me an excuse to record this song.  Also gave me an excuse to start playing with a loop pedal, which I’ve never done before.  Fun!

The words are about the spiritual journey, the world around us, being strangers…  anyway, hope you enjoy it.

LONG WAY FROM HOME

Its wintertime and I am walking down this road
Every branch is bending underneath its load
Every turn approaching hoping that I know
Which way to go

There are strangers voices from the left and right
I don’t understand the language of the time
Through the shadows searching for each patch of light
To truth inside
My way to guide cause I’m

A long way from home
Long way from home
Long way from home
Long way from home

Isn’t that I don’t have everything I need
Isn’t that I don’t have reasons to believe
Still I feel I’m on a journey I can’t see
To something more
Still haven’t found what I’m looking for

A long way from home
Long way from home
Long way from home
Long way from home

I got diamonds all around
So much more than I can count
Sill I hear the sound of something calling me
To a higher ground cause I’m

A long way from home
Long way from home
Long way from home
Long way from home
