Bent on Conquest (Come Lamb of God) – New Song for ICMC

Earth Slides.014

Here is a new song I wrote for this year’s ICMC, called “Bent on Conquest.”  In the video I give some of the background behind the song.  It’s inspired by several passages in Revelation.  Robert Carillo, who is directing the ICMC West, was saying he envisioned creating a feel with the gathering like “We Will Rock You” (the song by Queen that’s become a sporting event favorite).  So the idea of a couple thousand college students all doing a stomp and clap kind-of formed the backbone of the song.  You can hear that a bit at the end of the video where I give a taste of the studio recording of this song I’ve been working on.  I wanted something that was kind of like a chant but also with a soaring chorus, a call on God to be with us, to rescue and redeem us, just like in the book of Revelation.  I think the song could work with a full rock band or even just a capella with a room full of Jesus-followers.  I’ve also included a teaching recording below that goes through the vocal harmonies on the chorus and bridge.

Demo recording in progress

Here is the teaching recording:

Bent on Conquest – Teaching Recording

BENT ON CONQUEST (COME LAMB OF GOD)

Every eye will see Him
Every tongue confess His name
Alpha and Omega
Beginning and the end, the same
Gather round and listen
What’d the Holy Spirit say
He’s given us the victory
He’s coming with the clouds someday

Come, Lamb of God
Triumph and conquer
Bent on conquest
For the glory of your name
Come, Lamb of God
Just like you promised
Send all your angels
Deliver us today

War broke out in heaven
Battle rages on to this day
Michael fought the dragon
Leading all the world astray
Though we may be shaken
We will never be ashamed
He’s given us the kingdom
He’s coming with the clouds someday

Come, Lamb of God
Triumph and conquer
Bent on conquest
For the glory of your name
Come, Lamb of God
Just like you promised
Send all your angels
Deliver us today

You are worthy
Take the scroll
You bought us with your blood
Holy, holy is the Lord
Who was and is to come

Come, Lamb of God
Triumph and conquer
Bent on conquest
For the glory of your name
Come, Lamb of God
Just like you promised
Send all your angels
Deliver us today

I listened to the video instruction of the song and heard the studio recording afterward. Something of the instruction performance grabbed me more than the recording… I think it’s the faster tempo and acoustic sound of the instruction segment of this video. Then the recording sounded a little slow and too laid back for me. I guess my mind got conditioned to the faster speed. Nonetheless, excellent arrangement and solid lyrics. If possible as an alternative recording, that you might mimic what you did acoustically in that same tempo, and have the other musicians perform their respective parts into individual tracks, then mix those acoustic recorded tracks, it would put a little more drive into the final product. Aside from that, I do imagine that this song will be adopted by many Churches as a regular worship song selection. Thanks for doing a great job.

Thanks for giving everything a thorough listen. Yeah the demo recording is a work in progress – its me playing all of the instruments right now – going to get some other musicians on there. Good comments.

    Hello Brian,

I had 2 questions for you: has there ever been a music sheet written for this inspiring song? If so, would there be any way you could let me know how I can get a hold of it? My second question is about the translation of your songs into another language – in my case, it would be French – do I need to get any official authorization from you to do that? Would you be interested in my sending you the translation done of your songs?

Know that your work is so much appreciated overseas by your French-speaking brethren!

    In Christ

Hey thanks for your encouraging message! Sure feel free to translate, and it would be cool to see the ones you’ve done already. I haven’t make sheet music for this song yet –I need to do that for a few songs, so you’re helping to inspire me to get it done! God bless!
